My daughter is allergic to dogs, and I to cats. Could we ever have a pet?!

Question: My daughter is allergic to dogs, and I to cats. Could we ever have a pet?
Before you answer please don't suggest a breed of dog or cat that is hypoallergenic because I know there is no such thing.
I know it's about the dander and not the hair....

The question is, My daughter is two and she has shown allergies to several different dogs. Could she possible outgrow this? Or is there some kind of treatment that she could overcome her allergy?

And are there any other pets (besides FISH, rats, gerbils, etc.) that we might be able to have?

Answers:

birds! cockatiels are great pets. they are very lovable and playful and live long lives. google them and see if they would be suitable for your little girl. i had a cockatiel who died just a couple weeks ago. i loved her so much and miss her so much. it makes me so sad not having her but she lived a long life

Dogs are better allergy wise than cats so if you really wanted a pet like that you could get one. Allergies can be prevented by bathing the dog regularly, and wiping it down with a wet hand towel once a day. To further keep allergens out of the air you can purchase an allergen vacuum that sucks allergens out of the air. Medically you can get shots for allergic reactions to pets. Dogs and cats are the leading causes for people with allergies. 25% for cats! Other than that I don't think there are very many animals that can truly replace a dog or a cat.

Im allergic to both, but that never stopped me from having either.
Your body will actually get used to a certain pets allergies!
I had a cat that gave it to me terribly, but after a while it stopped bothering me (almost completely)

Just wash your hands after your done petting them, dont touch your eyes!
