Xrays and Exam. what are the chances...?!

Question: Xrays and Exam. what are the chances...?
I went to the dentist about a month ago for an exam and xrays,....i was told i would need some fillings, and wisdom tooth removal. Im just wondering, exactly how much can a dentist tell from a exam and xrays, ... and how often are they wrong about needing root canals. i havent been told that i need any, but i have been hearing around that sometimes, they dont know until they get into the tooth, so with xrays, and what i consider a thorough exam, what are the chances, that my dentist, and i could be in for a suprise, ....and i would very well need a root canal?

i guess, i have just always been really paranoid, about losing teeth, or having root canals, cus there soooo expensive! i have a appt. for monday to have the work done,.......so should i be worried??? how often do you think that happens?

Answers:

If your dentist told you that you need some fillings and a wisdom tooth removal - then that is what you need. Stop second-guessing the dentist, get the work done that you need and get on with your life. There are no guarantees in life. A root canal may become needed sometime in your future but right now, that is not in your dentist's plans.

It can be difficult often to tell just by an x-ray if a person definitely needs a root canal or not, but a dentist can tell what the probability is of needing one by seeing how deep the decay is on the x-ray and how close it appears to the pulp chamber. If, while cleaning out the decay, the dentist enters the pulp chamber, then almost certainly you will require a root canal. The dentist won't know for sure until he/she is actually done cleaning out the decay.

First of all..... Why do people do this to healthcare workers?

Did YOU spend 4 years in school to make these diagnosis? I'm pretty sure that if you did, YOU would be able to tell from an x-Ray. Besides...

WHY DO YOU THINK WE HAVE X-RAYS!!!!!!!!??????

YOU DONT GO TO YOUR MECHANIC AND TELL HIM, "No... I don't think it's the transmission". I have no formal training, but my horoscope told me it was my gas pump.

Why do people think that THEY understand their bodies better than doctors, nurses, dentists that studied this science for over 4 years?!?!?!!!???

Would you go up to an Astrophysicist and tell them that the "Super Moon" has the potential to destroy our planet?....... Wait. People already DO THAT.

And NASA is pissed because of it. I'm pretty sure your dentist will be too.
