Question: I was told as a child, I am allergic to Iodine, I want like to buy Potassium Iodide, will this hurt me?
I am worried about the state of events around the world. I am told these tablets or liquid will protect me and my family. If so... how long pryor to fallout do we need to take these tabs, and are there any other sources of protection?

Answers:

If you are truly allergic to iodine, you have to avoid all seafood, ocean fish, and iodized salt. The only one I know personally allergic to iodine had to have their thyroid removed because of goiter. The thyroid gland needs iodine and they are allergic to it, so it caused them to get a goiter. Now they have to take synthroid pills.
You should not take potassium iodide, if you are allergic to iodine.

Do not panic, go to this website : www.cdc.gov and click on radiation. There is a lot of information pertaining to your question. I wouldn't recommend you to take Potassium Iodide without consulting a doctor if you know you are allergic to Iodine.
