Should Hospital Call With Blood Test Results Even If Nothing Is Wrong?!

Question: Should Hospital Call With Blood Test Results Even If Nothing Is Wrong?
I took a blood test a few months ago. Diabetes runs in my family and i just wanted to know if i was diabetic. I went in and they told me they would let me know if anything was wrong. They never called me. This was back in January. I wish they could have just called me and let me know even if i don't have diabetes. I am thinking about doing another blood test and telling them to call me this time. I want to at least know how high or low my blood sugar is. I want to know because i just want to know. Should they call me even if nothing is wrong?

Answers:

Hospitals do not have the time and resources to call patients with the result of their blood work.. It is not they who order the blood tersts, itis your doctor who does.
If something is out of line, your doctor should call you.

Do you know, you can have the hospital send you the results of your blood tests??
All you have to do is ask them.
I ask for copies of all my blood work.

If you did it at a hospital and your Dr ordered it then it should come from your Dr.Here where I work we can send a patient to the hosp for the test but its our job to make sure the patient gets the results. But if you went through the ER or was in the hosp then you may not necessary get the results but your dr would have looked at them.So call your Dr.Remember its YOUR health and you need to follow up on it.You are just one of many that is seen and we nurses and Doctors cant call everyone with every lab result. But I have to tell you if there was something wrong you would most certainly have been notified.

nurse

i get my blood taken once a year because my mom has diabetes type 1

Your doctor should have those results. You should call your doctor and ask them.
