I have the flu but I don't know if I'm getting Secondary bacterial pne!

Question: I have the flu but I don't know if I'm getting Secondary bacterial pneumonia?
I went to the doctor yesterday because I was feeling heaps worse than today. I told him my symptoms which are:
blocked nose and runny nose
Sore throat
heavy head

I didn't tell him about the tiny green snot got early in the morning because that was the only time I got that.
He told me that I have the flu and said that I should take some pannadol, gargle with Difflam. He then told me to drink hot drinks, not cold.
The Doctor prescribed me Keflex capsules, I'm only allowed to take them if things are getting worse.

Today I noticed again, only once that I had produce the same greenish (and also yellowish). I don't know if I should go and see the doctor or just go and take Keflex.
Will Keflex help with greenish snot that also? I know that sound stupid to ask, but because I didn't tell the doctor about it, I feel kinda worried that it's more than just the flu.

PS I have asthma too, so right now I'm having tight chest at the moment.

Hi there,

So, pneumonia is a serious infection involving the actual tissue of the lungs, right at the bottom of the "pipes" so to speak. What you are describing sounds like a run-of-the-mill flu. If you had pneumonia you'd at very least have a significant fever and would be coughing.

I wouldn't recommend that you take the antibiotics yet as these work against bacteria and unfortunately the flu is cause by a virus and would be pretty useless. However, if your condition does deteriorate I would recommend that you start taking them and/or revisit your health practitioner.

Hope that this helps,
