1 year old Daughter has swollen tonsils?!

Question: 1 year old Daughter has swollen tonsils?
I went to the doctor today because my daughter has been eating really horribly. She has acid reflex, so I thought this could be the cause and her renitadine dose just needed changing. The doctor took a look at her throat and her tonsils are inflamed. It causes her to not want to eat, get stuffed up nose which causes her to get flem in her throat. Now that I think about it, she has had a stuffed up nose at least once a month, sometimes two times a month. Which means she has been having inflamed tonsils for a good couple of months now. What could be causing her to get inflamed tonsils. Could her acid reflux be causing it? people smoke in my house, but only a designated smoking room, never ever around her or anywhere the smoke could get out. I think that could contribute & make it slightly worse but I don't think it could cause the inflammation.

Hello Claire,

I'm sorry about your daughter. I think the getting repeated head-colds, is much more likely to be tied up to her tonsil trouble, than is acid-reflux on good treatment.

I think your best strategy is to get up-to-date measurements of her exact height and weight, plotted onto a modern girl's 0-to-2 "centile" growth-chart.

If her weight and her height are on the 50th centiles, (the "average" lines), - or above, - for her age, then she is growing well and by inference, her system is not under any especial infective strain.

If her height and weight are below the 25th centiles, - and definitely!! if below the 3rd centiles, for her age, - then her system is by inference, under real strain and something more needs to be done, by way of special tests.

This is the basic assessment method that a Paediatrician would use, in the first instance.

Here is a picture example, of a modern girls centile growth chart, (click) http://www.bmj.com/content/340/bmj.c1140…

I hope this is of some help.

Best wishes,

Smoke doesn't stay in a room just because the door is shut. It could play a part and/or she could just have ent problems that are exacerbated by the acid reflux (not reflex).
