Questions on preventing hemorrhoids? ?!

Question: Questions on preventing hemorrhoids? ?
I just went through a massive reconstructive hip surgery. I am going to be either in a wheelchair or bed for about 2 months. I am sort of scared that with all this sitting on my butt that I may be at risk for getting a hemorrhoid! I am usually very athletic, and I'm not used to being so immobile. Do you have any tips about how to stay away from them? Anything helps!
Btw I'm almost 15 years old. Pretty young for hip surgery!!! Thanks!

Answers:

First of all, a stool softener (not a laxative) will help. Also, drink plenty of water and eat your veggies and other carbs that contain a lot of fiber. Metamucil or Senokot are both good stool softeners that are over-the-counter.. At least they are the ones I'm familiar with in taking care of my elderly patients. God bless and I hope you are better soon! :)
