my infant son taking a bath with his brother and UTI's?!

Question: My infant son taking a bath with his brother and UTI's?
I have a three month old son with one functioning kidney along with severe reflux in the damaged kidney, he goes to his grandparents house and they gave him a bath with his half brother who is five. i am concerned about them making a habit of this because i dont know if perhaps he could get a urinary tract infection because of being in the bath water with bacteria from not only his brother but anyone else who uses that shower, i want to ask them not to do this but im looking for information to back it up. he takes daily antibiotics as a preventative but still im uncomfortable with this. anyone with a little knowledge on the subject would be helpful

Answers:

from what I understand, any tub bathing can introduce bacteria into the urinary tract, so regardless of how sanitary grandma's tub is or her bath linens, the other child's skin cells and little kid cooties could float around in the water. At three months, he's too young to be in a big tub anyway, so just very nicely say that Junior needs to be bathed by himself to keep his little system as safe as possible. Compare it to his having an open wound.

I would be very careful about giving him baths, and especially with someone else since he already has only one kidney. Make sure you do not use bubble bath either. I would just tell them the truth and that it could lead to an infection of his kidney. I am sure they will understand if you explain it to them.

Doctors' offices, hospital.
