If Cannabis is such a promising cure to cancer, why is it still illegal?!

Question: If Cannabis is such a promising cure to cancer, why is it still illegal?
Answers:

I'm all for legalisation; but cannabis has not been proven to be effective against cancer.

The report you link to is a report of research carried out by Complutense University in Madrid and the University hospital of Tenerife into the use of chemical cannabinoids to help treat ONE TYPE of brain tumour, glioblastoma multiforme.

There were interesting results, yes; but the number of patients involved was very small - only nine. Nine subjects does not equal conclusive proof by any stretch of the imagination, and nor do the university researchers claim it as proof.

There has been a study that indicates that cannabinoids can help prevent prostate cancer. Again, just a study, not proof of any kind. Studies simply suggest possibilities for further research, they do not provide proof.

And leagalising cannabis wouldn't have any effect - there's no suggestion in any of this research that using marijuana can either treat or prevent cancer; the research has been done using man-made chemicals that mimic the compounds found in cannabis, rather than unpurified marijuana.

There's research going on; but there is no proof that it has any effect on cancer.

I researched it, believe me; I'd have preferred it a thousand times over chemotherapy, But the evidence wasn't there.

If a news report that doesn't actually make the claims you say it does is the best evidence you can offer, it obviously still isn't.

By the way, there is some evidence that cannabis is a risk factor for testicular cancer

EDIT: you did a school essay; I went through cancer. I wonder which one of us was more motivated to find answers and more diligent in their research?

And after writing your essay, you can STILL only offer us that one hotch potch of a link. Youtube is not a credible source for research, and the 5 minutes of this I managed to watch (on my second attempt) was largely taken up with an unidentified man rambling about about how cannabis doesn't cause cancer.

And I have to question how thorough any of your research is if you could find nothing about cannabis and testicular cancer, even in a few minutes. Here you go:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19204…

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles…

Studies. Not conclusive, not proof of a link. Just studies. Just as the studies you refer to are not proof, just studies.

Because people who don't have cancer take it and get hooked and spend the rest of their days talking only about weed. Although the magic dragon does have benefits it also has negatives. Ive seen and been with people who have serious mental illnesses because of weed. Here in Australia you can take weed for medical purposes but it's pretty much apart from that illegal, that's the way i think it should be

Medical marijuana in pill form has been legal as a prescription drug since the 1980's. Read this reference if you are interested http://www.justice.gov/dea/ongoing/marin…

It is not such a "promising cure" for any of the 200 plus types of cancer that we see. If it were proven in scientific controlled studies to be clearly effective in treating any type of cancer, we can prescribe it as synthetic THC in pill form "Marinol."

I like lo_mcg's answer too.

This is an interesting site as well. http://norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=6635

It doesn't cure ****. If cannabis was such a wonder plant then no person on earth would die from cancer. It doesn't even do a good job of helping nausea and poor appetite. There are way better drugs out there to manage that.

People just want to smoke it to get high. Same reason why people want to do crack or heroine. You could argue that heroine is a great painkiller or that amphetamines help ADHD. But thats a load of **** from the liberals idiots.

It's not a cure, it's a way to help mange side effects of cancer treatment. For example, chemo therapy can make patients nauseous, feel great amounts of pain and lose weight from a loss of appetite. Cannabis is effective against all of these things.

because the government doesn't want us to find out about the fact that it can cure anything.... broken arm.. boom fixed.... small pox.. boom fixed!! im onto them thought!!
=]] nicole

Because people use cannabis for fun which is dangerous.

It isn't a cure.
