What should I do if my friend has mono?!

Question: What should I do if my friend has mono?
So I just got back from a school trip where I was roomates with a girl who just found out today that her "cold" was really mono. During the trip we both had cold-like symptoms (except I never really had the sore throat) so we shared water thinking it couldn't hurt either one of us. The whole thing has left me wondering if my cold is really something more. If not, what can I do now to try to prevent getting mono?

Answers:

I don't think you can prevent it. You might not even feel as bad as your friend does, mono could lurk for a long time without showing more symptoms than a slight fever or a minor cold. Your immune system would be pretty ****** up though so take some extra vitamin C, drink cranberry juice and rest a lot. When I had mono my neck swelled up really bad, and the lymph nodes in my armpits and neck also got big. Look out for those symptoms. If you start getting worse take some painkillers or paracetamol, there are no antibiotics against mono, however you could get other infections due to your weak immune system.
