Is it possible to get your first ear infection at age 30? And are ear infections!
Question: Is it possible to get your first ear infection at age 30? And are ear infections contagious?
Answers:
Hi Stacy! 30 years old is not "late in life," but over 80 years old might be. Yes, you could get your first ear infection at any age in life. Though what feels like an ear infection is sometimes due to allergy and fluid build-up in the middle ear (where infections occur), the fact that both your son and you are hurting does make an infection more likely. Sometimes, an upper respiratory infection, like a cold, could cause the infection and be contagious. You could visit a health clinic or your doctor for a while-you-wait Rapid Strep Throat test to see if prescription antibiotics are indicated. Over-the-counter decongestants might reduce the middle ear fluid and give some pain relief. Viruses simply have to run their course. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
