Are tests for a hereditary gene (cancer gene) usually accurate?!

Question: Are tests for a hereditary gene (cancer gene) usually accurate?
Say if you they say 'you' are all clear and have not got the cancer gene' does that mean you are clear

Answers:

The tests are accurate in determining if you have a certain bad gene; they do NOT eliminate the possibility that you could get the disease anyway. It would simply indicate the gene that increases the odds of getting a certain disease is not present. You are NOT immune if the cancer gene isn't present but the odds are more in your favor.
