What's the BEST acne prescribed medication that anyone has tried?!

Question: What's the BEST acne prescribed medication that anyone has tried?
For me it was accutane. I've had bad acne since I was 12 years old. When I was 24 years old I decided to go to the dermatologist and they prescribed me accutane. I swear my face has never been so clear and blemish free. I'll be 30 next year but since doctors no longer prescribe accutane I'm now on doxycycline. My skin is not as crystal clear as it used to be.

Accutane also worked for me. I remember my treatment vividly.

I was 14, starting as a freshman in high school. My acne wasn't just bad, it was HORRIBLE. I had acne on my face, scalp, neck, shoulders, arms, chest and back. I was the poster-child for being called "pizza-face." And I really was. That was an incredibly difficult time, to start high school with a face like that. I got teased a lot.

I had tried Eurethromiacin, Tetracycline, and Minocin, but none of it worked. Finally, I was prescribed Accutane, 40 mg, twice per day, for 5 months straight. During the treatment, my face dried up like a prune. The skin on my entire face was cracking and peeling, including the skin on my lips. It was annoying, just as embarassing as having acne, and more than a tad painful.

But after 5 months, my treatment ended. My face smoothed out, and the acne was gone, and it stayed gone. I still get the occasional pimple on my face, but they are far more likely to appear on my back or shoulders (sometimes even one on my arm). 20 years later, my face is completely clear, except for some scarring where I USED to get a lot of acne. I have never needed to go on another acne treatment again. I still swear by Accutane. I know it's taken a pounding in the press, but it worked wonders for me. Having my face cleared up before the end of my freshman year was truly life-changing.

The best prescription treatment for me is 10% benzoyl peroxide . However you can get 5% benzoyl peroxide at any drug store - without a prescription. The only side effect is that it may bleach your clothes!

You can also help things along by using an over the counter body/face wash that has salicylic acid in it. Salicylic acid helps to prevent further acne/blockages. My favourite is St. Ives Blemish and Blackhead Apricot Face Wash.

I find that by using benzoyl peroxide and a salicylic wash, my skin clears up fairly quickly.
