an abnormal papsmear?!

Question: An abnormal papsmear?
what might it mean if a doctor says your papsmear was abnormal and it had some a-typical cells??

(they said they will check again in six months but i dont want to wait that long.)

Answers:

Abnormal cells could be dysplasia, hyperplasia or anything in-between. This can sometimes clear on it's own or it can progress to pre-cancerous cells which then will need biopsies/conization/leep procedure. If they said 6 months, then this is probably something that they believe won't progress very fast. Wait the 6 months, get your next PAP and see how it turns out. It might be possible all of this will be gone. If the cell type were anything serious, they would have made an appointment for you for a biopsy. You need to relax and follow their instructions.
