Does long-term usage of narcotics cause increased gas (flatulence)?!

Question: Does long-term usage of narcotics cause increased gas (flatulence)?
If so, why? And what can be done to minimize this effect?

Answers:

Narcotic pain meds(Opiates) slow down the activity of the colon--they slow peristalsis. This in turn allows bacteria to amass creating gas and many times constipation too.
