Could I have type 2 diabetes? – Numb fingers, tired, frequent urinating, etc.?!

Question: Could I have type 2 diabetes? – Numb fingers, tired, frequent urinating, etc.?
I’m a 20 year old male, I’m 5 foot 7 inches tall, weigh 250 pounds. Because I take online classes, and most of my hobbies are on the computer, I sit at my computer on average 10+ hours a day. At night, especially when I lay down (for example, to go to sleep) I get pain in my chest, almost like pressure, and I have trouble breathing. Some days I also feel tired and out of energy. Just recently, I had a lot of pain in my foot, and 2 days ago my left pinky and left ring finger went numb. I can still feel my fingers, but they are tingly (sort of like when your foot falls asleep), and the numbness hasn’t passed. I’m also urinating 5-6 times a day, which is pretty abnormal for me. Naturally I would think of type 2 diabetes, but all of this has happened quite suddenly, whereas, (or at least as far as I know) symptoms of type 2 diabetes happens gradually over time.
I was hoping someone might know what could be wrong, or if I need to go see a doctor. I have been quite worried ever since my fingers have gone numb and haven’t passed, any info would be great and thanks in advance. =)

Yes, Type II diabetes gradually happens over time, but it doesn't mean that you will be able to notice it right away. Which is why when some people are given the news that they have it, they are shocked because they never expected anything of the sort to happen to them. That's what happened to us, when our family doctor told my mom that she has diabetes. We really didn't expect it, and of course we thought ourselves immune to that kind of thing since we don't eat in excess sweets and junk food, but you never really know.

Signs you should look for if you're worried about diabetes are symptoms like fatigue, blurred vision, sores that are slow to heal, itchy skin. You could also suddenly lose weight, even if you eat more frequently. This is because the body is failing to produce blood glucose, hence the feeling of being hungry all the time, but since the body fails to get the energy from the glucose, it targets the fat stored in the body instead, hence the weight loss. My mom also became prone to peeing more than usual but she's also always thirsty. Does that happen to you a lot?

Another thing to look for is you are always tired, have tingling in hands and feet and have blurry vision. If you are experiencing any of these I would suggest that you go see a doctor. That is really the best option because you can't keep on speculating without an expert's opinion. I hope you don't take this lightly, although I also hope that you don't have diabetes and maybe just need a bit of exercise every now and then. Good luck.

Change in urine is a sign of diabetes but I can't say that you are diabetes since you didn't mention your diet. You sit 10 hours plus a day in your computer and what you are feeling might be due to lack of exercise and muscle movement. It is best to consult your doctor or have a urine test. If protein or glucose is present you are probably have diabetes or kidney problem.

Since you're experiencing a few warning signs of Type 2 diabetes (frequent urination, fatigue), it may be best for you to consult your doctor the soonest. Yes, Type 2 diabetes develops gradually over time but you may have it for years without even knowing it.

Do you have a chemist near you just go in they should have a glucose Monitor , if not pop into your doctors , I would think at your age 20 you would have to have a history of diabetes in your family .Many reason why you have so many symptoms , weight is a factor and heart best be sure pop into see your doctor and all the best

It's wrong that diabetes has to come gradually over time. It can come pretty fast. Urinating frequently is a good sign of diabetes, so better let your bloodsugar check by a doctor.

Get a glucose monitor around $12 or get tested at your doctors, full test takes awhile for glucose tolerance test, needs to be done over a period to test how well your body is breaking down glucose.

The pain in your chest is not a typical symptom of diabetes and may be due to the fact that you have a lot of weight bearing down your chest when you're on your back. If you roll onto your stomach or side, do you still feel it?

Numbness and tingling in the extremities can be a sign of diabetic neuropathy, but because you're at a computer for over 10 hours a day, you might be straining your hands and fingers from all the typing and mouse-clicking. I can't explain why your foot is hurting, but you may have poor circulation due to sitting all day or you may have just injured yourself.

It's important to know what's normal for you, so if 5-6 times a day is unusual for your body, that's noteworthy; however, when a person has very high blood sugar, they're urinating as much as several times an hour, not 5-6 times in a day. I know that when I'm at the computer and I'm getting lost in work or screwing around on the internet, I can go through two sodas an hour without even realizing it. You may be drinking more than usual. Also, when you're at home all day, you can go to the bathroom whenever you feel like it. When you're at work or school, you are operating by someone else's schedule, so you're more likely to hold it and not even realize you have to go. Certain kinds of drinks can increase your urination, like coffee or tea.

I think you're okay, but you are probably suffering from some minor stress injuries from the computer use. Take a break every hour for at least ten minutes to walk around and get your circulation going. Type as little as possible and try not to overwork your injured hand.
