do people die from MRSA?!

Question: Do people die from MRSA?
if left untreated

and how do people usually catch the super bug?

and how would a hospital be able to treat it?

Answers:

Yes, people do die from it.

It is often "caught" from contact / inhalation of infected body fluids (saliva, snot, etc).

There are some drugs that can treat it if it is caught early, before it spreads throughout the body.

Yes, (occasionally).

How do people catch it? Unhygienic people.

How would the hospital treat it? Simply by being extra clean, we don't have control over nature, but simply keeping the hospital less dusty, scrubbing the Walls, floors and even doors, wearing gloves, changing the beds, etc. Also keeping people with viral infections away from wards, limiting amount of visitors, etc. Basically just using common sense.

MRSA refers to a strain of staphylococcus aureus which is resistant to traditional antibiotics i.e. Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus.
Once acquired the organism may eventually enter a persons bloodstream and affect multiple organs including the lungs causing a pneumonia. If left untreated it may well cause death especially in persons who are hospitilsed and already ill/immunocompromised etc.
It is commonly caught by persons who are hospitilised for long periods of time, especially if they are subject to invasive procedures or monitoring e.g. on a ventilator. Also persons who are immobile and immunocompromised are more likely to acquire the infection.
The bug is found in hospitals and especially in intesive care units because the extensive use of traditional antibiotics causes what is referred to as 'superselection' i.e. they kill off the common organisms and allow the resistant organisms to proliferate.
MRSA can be treated with an antibiotic known as Vancomycin.

Totally. My father-in-law died of it days after he was infected, and he was totally healthy before that. He got it, presumably, from shucking oysters in dirty water with cuts on his hands. He had no other possibly internal exposure.

ONce it gets to your bloodstream, it is CRITICAL and you could easily die in days if you don't seek immediate treatment.

MRSA is treated with antibiotics. like any infection, yes one can die from it.
