I think I have a urine infection but I don't want to go to the doctors.?!

Question: I think I have a urine infection but I don't want to go to the doctors.?
I'm pretty sure I have a urine infection, I have all the symptoms but I don't want to go to the doctors because they will have to do a urine test. I would be fine with this normally its just I smoked weed with friends on saturday and surely it will come up on the results?
I'm 15 and my mum would come with me and I really don't want her to find out about me trying drugs but then what do I do about the urine infection?

I know I shouldn't be doing drugs but I really need help with this.

Please can I just have serious and helpful answers.

Answers:

If you have a urinary infection (UTI) the Dr. will only test your urine for bacteria, blood cells ph and stuff. He will not be testing for drugs. The only reason he would test for drugs would be if your mom asked him to. Some people say to treat with cranberry juice but if it is a real infection with +bacteria,+ blood cells in the urinethen you need antibiotics. Unless there is something "weird" he won't even have to look at you down there.

Most UTI's do not require him to look down there. The symptoms of a UTI include pain/burning on urination, feeling like you always have to go and only dribbling a little you may or may not have a temp. Your urine may look alot different in the toliet having a slightly cloudyappearancee instead of clear urine. Dark color only means you are needing to drink more.

It is important to get this treated since the infection can affect your kidneys. I recently had one and was put on antibiotics that did not work and ended up having to go to the hospital for IV antibiotics. Good luck.

The weed won't show up on the type of urine test they do so you needed worry about it. Drugs tests and the dip tests for urine infections are totally different chemistry.

Try the cranberry juice by all means but if it gets worse or is no better in 24hrs then go to the Doctor. In anycase your Doctor patient confidentiality means that they shouldn't really tell your mum that sort of thing.

They do not test your urine for drugs unless you get a drug test. What you should do is for awhile, take some AZO pills from the pharmacy or drink cranberry juice and lots of fluids. The cranberry juice helps with the pain. One thing to know though is that if it is advanced, it can spread to your kidneys and that can cause a world of trouble.

Have you been having sex? some std's show up feeling like a urine infection.

Also, stay off the drugs. I know too many people who ended up losers from that crap!

Do not be afraid.Urine test is easy and done after collecting urine in a bottle by you.Medicines last only for few weeks.Unattended UT I will turn in to Kidney infection and in complications.Mean while drink a lot of barley water at frequent intervals.

Drink GALLONS of water and cranberry juice. If the symptoms persist after two or three days, you MUST see a doctor. A urinary tract infection could lead to kidney disease, and I promise you, you don't want that!

Cranberry juice, lots and lots of it. Only for a few days.

I'm sure you 'mum' has smoked weed before when she was younger, she'll get over it if she finds out. They usually don't tell the parents with out talking to you first.

They do not routinely check for weed on a urinalysis. They check for blood and infection. Just go get the test done because you may need antibiotics for it.

Try cranberry juice.

If you are having a problem, it is much better to have it taken care of as soon as possible.
The problem could develop into a major life threatening problem.

I just had urine infection and without treatment it is only going to get worse. When it gets so bad that you can't stand up straight you will be begging your mom to take you.

a doctor would be the best option, don't be embarrassed. The doctors are like strangers, they don't go home and laugh about your urine :')

Drink cranberry juice (the real stuff). Lots of it. Lots and Lots. It's good for urine infections like cystitis.

You are safe going to the Doc. A standard urine test does not include a tox screen ergo, it wont pick up your drug use.

Sweet Sue has it correct except for one thing. The doctor will NOT test for drugs at your mothers request.

Drug tests are voluntary only, even for business / law enforcement (they have options to fire you or hold you for contempt charges though). But you can not be tested for drugs unless you consent to the test.

More, once you are over 13, the doctor can not release information to your parents or anyone else without your direct consent. If you do not want your mother there when you talk to the doctor, tell her to leave. If she refuses, tell the doctor you do not want her taking part in your exam. He / She will have your mother leave the room. You have your privacy rights and the doctor can not violate them.

Where to start. Firstly at 15 smoking cannabis increases your risk of psychotic mental illness by around 50%, notwithstanding the long term risks of COPD, lung cancer, heart disease and brain atrophy leading to early dementia.

Second, no one can or would test you for anything without your express permission.

Finally untreated UTIs can progress from the nuisance of cystitis, up from the bladder via the ureters to the kidneys. This produces pyelo-nephritis. This can permanently scar the kidneys and cumulatively can lead to renal failure. On rare occasions it can also lead to fatal septicaemia, thus making it one of the few occasions where antibiotics are routinely justified. Most GPs will prescribe for this without seeing the patient or requiring a test, and it is also just about the only situation where to do so is considered reasonable.

EDIT The most recent studies January 2011 BARBOSA-CESNIK C , Brown MB, Buxton M, Zhang L, et al
Indicate that cranberry juice fails to prevent recurrent urinary tract infection: results from a randomized placebo-controlled trial.

GP for more years than I care to remember
