why do you get a flu shot in October when the flu season begins in December?!

Question: Why do you get a flu shot in October when the flu season begins in December?
Answers:

it's because when they give a vaccination, its a 'dead' form of the virus. So the body thinks it's the real thing. Because of that the body starts p the immune system and goes through the process and leaves things called Memory B-cells. These stay in the blood so if the virus comes back, *the real one* you'll be prepared for it.

So your immune system learns how to produce antibodies for the predicted seasonal strain AHEAD of time.

You know, like learning to fly a plane in a simulator BEFORE you take off in a real one.

Flu has a sudden onset of 6-12 hours, if you got the vaccine after the onset, it would be pointless and it would take 2 weeks for your body to learn to make antibodies for the flu or flu vaccine. After 2 weeks you're well past the infection period.

I have a degree and worked in health care.

Well, because the government tell me too and everyone knows what the government says is correct. Think got I avoided the flu! but for some reason I have aids now. Well, I guess that's just a side affect of safety. Yay safety.

So I don't catch the flu

Because I'm a flu shot junkie.
