Can neosporin go through scabs?!

Question: Can neosporin go through scabs?
I had my cat scratch me a few days ago. Now the wound is red and slightly swollen and the pain has gotten a little worse. I want to use neosporin but the scratch has stabbed up. Do I need to reopen the wound to apply?

Answers:

Well, I'm only a mom and gramma, and I'm not there to see the wound. I would soak it in the warmest water possible (or hot) and wash it well. Then I'd put Neosporin on it if that's all I had.

I personally don't think Neosporin is very effective. What I would do is go to a pharmacy, and get a solution called Hibcleanse or Hibicleanse. Wash the wound following instructions on the bottle--let it sit on the wound for 2 or 3 minutes. It will heal in a few days.

Just get the small bottle--it's a little pricey and goes out of date in at least a couple of years, if not less. (I keep mine past the expiration date.) It's a good thing to have on-hand in the med cabinet, but don't use it on young children.

neosporin should soften the scab up after a while until it looks all gooey and falls off. It should scab up again and repeat. Neosporin is some pretty good stuff. It shouldn't take long to heal if you keep it clean.
