Can I trust that a guy says he has no STDs?!

Question: Can I trust that a guy says he has no STDs?
I've been seeing a recovering addict for a little while. We haven't done anything sexually, but we've talked about it a bit. He told me that he got tested while he was in rehab and that he doesn't have any STDs, but I'm not sure if I should trust his word or not?

I know that we can use condoms, but if there's a risk of getting something from him then I'll most likely reconsider the entire relationship. He's very active in his recovery and in NA, he's doing well for himself. But I'm still not sure if I can trust that he is STD free? Where should I go from here?

Answers:

Go get tested with him, so you're not singling him out, plus it's better to be sure anyways!! You can't trust anyone! You have to take care of yourself because no one else is going to. I learned the hard way after dating someone for months and he never disclosed his status to me after all that time, except to apologize AFTER the fact. Be careful!!

Two recovering addicts trying to form a relationship is a disaster in the making. As far as his STD testing, some STD's lay dormant or aren't "sensed" till a certain point after they get them. You should always protect yourself.. you'd think a person whose endured the hardships of addiction and the mistrust you developed towards people, you'd think you'd know better....

Think of yourself,if you question anything about his past then don't have sex with him.Your life is the most important thing.Even using a condom isn't 100% safe. Its just not worth it.

nurse---ALWAYS use an condom with every contact..

A doctor's office. Both of you should get tested before embarking on a sexual relationship.

Of course you should. This way you can get STD really fast. Have unprotected sex with everyone! I highly recommend it!
