Could I, a 13 year old girl, have breast cancer?!

Question: Could I, a 13 year old girl, have breast cancer?
Almost all the women in my family on both sides have had breast cancer, including my mother. I am only 13 but have noticed a marble like lump inside my breast, its been there for a month now. Also, my breast get very itchy usually around the nipple and sometimes burn. I have also been getting alot of really bad headaches recently. My breast have also gotten very tender and hurt to touch. Not to mention my nipples may 'flake' alot. My friends have noticed that my breast have gotta bigger by one whole cup size in the corse of 48 hours. I dont want to sound like a hypocondreact or anything, Im just worried.

Answers:

i think well done to you for keeping up checking your breasts regularly enough that you do notice differences! not many 13 year olds would think to do that,
ok so there is family history and you are at the age now where your body is maturing and you have breast tissue etc so yes there is a chance you can get breast cancer. highly unlikely at your age though!!! ok so no need at all to panic!! :) what i would suggest though given your family history and the fact that you have found a lump. if you can talk to your dad just say you need to go to the doctor. if you cant talk to your dad about this sort of thing i think you need to work on that as he and you need to be able to talk about these things seems as though you are living together. and do you speak to your mum? can you call her?
but anyways just go to the doctor. you probably have a cyst which only 5% are harmful and again at your age are sooo highly likely NOT harmful! :)
keep up the good work examining yourself and when you get to the doctors the doctor can give you some tips on finding out what is normal what isnt and the likelihood of you having breast problems in the future or not.

First of all don't worry you are going to be fine. Talk to your mother about this when she is free so that she can have a look.

Same thing happened to my its just development of breasts but go to a doctor to be sure because my breasts sure didnt get bigger.
Good luck

NO it is not cancer.
Due to hormonal changes at this age.
May take opinion from DOC with your Mother.

Not possible

No. Not even close to being Breast Cancer. This is simply your growing breasts.

doubtful, the flaking and itching could be fungus. don't wash clothes with the bathroom rug.

Talk to your mother

If a 13 year old had breast cancer, her case would make the news and be written up in medical journals the world over.

The chances of breast cancer at your age are ZERO.

At your age any changes in your breasts are normal hormonal development. Tenderness, itching - all girls go through it - your breasts are developing.

The fact that it's happening in both your breasts makes it even less likely - if that were possible - that this is anything to worry about.

Even in women old enough for breast cancer, most breast lumps aren't cancer. Breasts are pretty lumpy, bumpy things anyway; when you feel your breasts with your fingertips, you'll almost always find lumps.

Headaches are not a breast cancer symptom. Breast pain is almost never a symptom of breast cancer, even in older women - most people diagnosed with breast cancer have felt no pain at all.

Breast cancer is rarely hereditary; and even in those rare families where it is hereditary it doesn't happen to 13 year olds.

If you don't have a trusted female relative you can talk to, talk to your school nurse; she will be able to reassure you that all is normal and you DON'T have breast cancer.

It is NOT a good idea to do breast self checks at your age; they'll tell you nothing and worry you unnecessarily. The American Cancer Society and other cancer organisations recommend that women begin breast self examination at no younger than 20, if then; and many cancer professionals say 30. Before that it's pointless; firstly because there are so many hormonal changes that there is no 'normal' - and self examination is about a woman knowing what's normal for her and reporting any changes. And secondly because the chance of breast cancer is almost nil.

You know, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer I was classed as a 'younger woman'. You know why? I was only 50, which is pretty young for breast cancer.
