Did I catch the flu or just a cold?!

Question: Did I catch the flu or just a cold?
It started the day before yesterday with the very back of my mouth (where my tonsils are) feeling extremely dry and hurting when I woke up. Then yesterday, it turned into an all around sore throat, my sinuses were acting up and I was getting sinus headaches. Today, take all those things and add body aches and a slight queeziness in the stomach, but this could've been cake I ate yesterday. Can't say. I haven't checked my temperature because I don't think we have a thermometer.

Answers:

Colds and flu are both caused by viruses. The symptoms can be similar. If you are able to take fluids and aren't having vomiting or diarrhea, you will be able to maintain hydration. If you had the flu, the thing to be concerned about would be pneumonia. Since you are having sinus symptoms, to me it sounds like you started with a cold, and now the infection has moved into your sinuses. This may require antibiotic therapy. If the mucous in your nose is yellow or green, that indicates a bacteria infection that can be treated with antibiotics.

Aches and pains and even nausea can be caused by fever. Try taking some tylenol or ibuprofen and see if this helps. Also taking a shower can be soothing to body aches and help drain your sinuses. Make sure to drink a variety of different fluids to maintain hydration. Getting dehydrated will make you feel worse and may require a visit to the ER to correct.

It could just be a cold, well a serious one. Or maybe it is the flu but I thought the flu included actual throwing up, but I could be wrong! Anyway whatever it is just rest and take care of yourself.
