Heart attack symptoms ? not sure . please help !?!

Question: Heart attack symptoms ? not sure . please help !?
Hi, I'm 5 months pregnant 20 years old and 4'11" .. I have been having really bad heart burn and I think I have acid reflux .. its most likely . But I also have sharp stabbing pains in my chest , usually my left side, they come and go . Is that a part of acid reflux ?? Its been going on for a few days now, I'm assuming if it was a heart attack I would have been dead already . Help ??

Answers:

not acid reflux but heartburn. The most common and telling symptom of a heart attack is numbness in your left arm, shortness of breath AND chest pains. The chest pains alone are not normally a sign of a heart attack so I wouldn't worry too much but go and see your GP about the acid reflux as they should be able to give you some meds to keep it at bay - I have Omeprazole for mine and they don't normally affect pregnancy but its always best to check it out if you are worried.

Those sharp stabbing pains could be a symptom of acid reflux. If it continues try one simple step. Sip on a glass of cool water for a few minutes. If the pain subsides it is more likely acid reflux. An antacid would give short term relief in this case. One of the 3 or 4 over-the-counter acid reducers will relieve your symptoms. Any spicy or fried foods can trigger an attack. As can alcohol or carbonated beverages. (soda) It these steps do not give you relief then you should go to your doctor. At 20 years old heart conditions are quite rare, but not impossible. So check with your doctor if the symptoms continue.

Does not sound cardiac related. Heart pains are not, as a rule, sharp. I don't think it's anything to worry about. I think it's more related to the physical contraints of your height as your body deals with a growing baby. Now, I haven't seen you...so I can't really say for sure. I would say that it would be wise to call your doc Monday morning and mention what has been going on. If nothing else, it will give you peace of mind. I think you're right in thinking that it's reflux related and nothing to worry about, but if it concerns you enough to come here and ask, let it concern you enough to call your doc Monday morning...and good luck with your pregnancy.

Go to the doctor and tell them this because they could be very important! Good luck!
