anyone know anything about Herpes ?!

Question: Anyone know anything about Herpes ?
how harmful is it?

Answers:

A popular fact related to herpes, in general, is that it cannot be cured. The herpes simplex virus is known to coexist with the human immune system and that is the reason why it cannot be completely eradicated. Even though regular treatment is useful in controlling the frequencies of outbreaks and covering up basic symptoms, a perfectly normal sexual life is not possible after you get herpes on penis. The type that occurs on the lips (what causes cold sores) isn't very harmful at all.
The genital type of herpes can cause pelvic inflammatory disorder in women over time. But besides that it's relatively harmless. All it does is cause annoying or painful sores or blisters on the mouth or genitals. Herpes doesn't often interfere with other aspects of you health and it's not life threatening. You can still have a normal life with herpes, there is a negative social stigma around herpes which makes it seam worse then it is.
It's very rare to spread herpes to a new born and there are ways to help prevent that from happening.

Do you mean genital herpes, or herpes simplex type 2? This is a sexually transmitted disease that causes intense itching followed by open sores in the anal and/or genital area. Herpes outbreaks are uncomfortable and annoying but otherwise do not affect your health. Of course herpes is harmful in the sense that the disease is highly contagious, so you can harm others by giving it to them. Pregnant women who have herpes can pass it to their babies if they are having a breakout and there are sores in the vaginal canal. during childbirth. This can be fatal to the baby, so the doctor may do a C-section instead.

Once you have herpes you will have it for life. There is no cure. The first outbreak is usually the worst and subsequent outbreaks are milder. The virus may become dormant and you may never have another outbreak for the rest of your life. On the other hand you may have frequent breakouts. It's different for everyone, though the frequency of breakouts tend to diminish over time. Herpes breakouts can be brought on by excessive physical or mental stress, so if you have herpes it is important to take care of your health and avoid getting run down.

When you do have a breakout, it will usually preceded by a burning, intense itching sensation called the prodrome. This is followed by the outbreak of tiny sores that will be very sensitive. Depending on the location of the sores, it may be uncomfortable to urinate or defecate. Warm baths can be soothing. Keep the area of the breakout clean and dry as possible and avoid wearing tight jeans as the friction can make the discomfort worse. The sores will heal within seven to 10 days. During this time, do not have sexual intercourse because you will be contagious until the sores are completely gone.

Doctors can prescribe an antiviral such as Acyclovir or Valtrex to shorten the breakouts. If you take an antiviral daily, it can even prevent them. It is important to remember, though, that you can shed the virus and infect a sexual partner even when you are not having a breakout. To be as safe as possible, you need to use some kind of barrier protection such as a condom even if you are not having a breakout and even if you are taking a daily antiviral.

If you are infected with the herpes virus, you should always inform any prospective sex partner in advance. It's the decent and responsible thing to do.

I've had it since 1970, but my husband does not.

Absolutely Bad it is! You can never get ride of herpes once you got it.It is can't be cured.
harmful? you wil got answer below
Visible indications of a herpes outbreak include:
Redness and swelling on, or around, the genitals
Generally preceded by a sensation of burning, itching, or tingling, the appearance of redness and swelling on, or around, the genitals is often an indication that a herpes outbreak is under way.
Fluid-filled blisters on the genitals, thighs, buttocks or groin
The most commonly-recognized symptom of genital herpes, “fluid-filled blisters on the genitals or groin area” is usually the answer given when one asks the question, “What does herpes look like?” Initially, the blisters appear as small, pimple-like bumps filled with clear liquid. Over the next few days, however, they steadily enlarge until they have grown together into reddened, painful clusters.

Well, of course one would rather not have it, but it's a manageable virus.
Being that it is a virus, those things are tricky & can go visiting body parts & cause unexpected complications.
Herpes simplex on the lip (a "cold sore" or "fever blister") really hurts. If the sore is not managed well, it can become infected. That's not the virus, that's a complication from the after effects of the virus. We're used to hearing about the genital sores of herpes complex. Can't imagine that's a fun time either. Herpes can be spread to newborns. Condoms aren't completely effective since the virus can come from an exposed sorce out of range of the condom. There's a whole lot of bodily fluids going on down there that can pick that virus up & grind it into the surrounding area of a non-infected partner. Mainly, it's manageable under a doctor's care & acting responsibly. The main concern is that tricky nature of viruses to travel the blood stream & decide to lodge in an organ that one is not monitoring for adverse reaction. -- In summary, I wouldn't want to get it, but my world would not fall apart if I had it.

It's a non curable STD..you may not have an outbreak for years at a time but you will always carry the infection. Nasty sores, very painful http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&sugex…
