Question: Could i be becoming diabetic??? serious answers only please!?
i have read it takes a while to completely stop producing insulin, so during the time would your sugar level slowly increase ? about a month ago My friends diabetic mum tested mine and it was 8 or 9 she said this was a bit high but not diabetic this was like a few hours after our tea. so could like i be sort of slowly becoming diabetic? i have to pee alot am always tired and drink alot too so???? what does this mean. im 15 by the way and a healthy weight.
any help???

Answers:

i experienced thirst even if i drank loads, i pee'd a lot and i just had uncanny hunger and then when i realised that i was really thin all of a sudden i weighed myself and i had lost nearly 1 1/2 stone in a week. i went to the doctors and he gave me a pee strip and all you do is pee on it ( like a pregnancy test) and if it goes green you have sugar in your pee and that means that the sugar isnt getting digested into your blood or something like that. my blood sugar was 13.5 when i got tested and then i had to go to hospital. it seems that you may be a diabetic but you cant be sure until you go to the doctors, so phone tomorrow and get an appointment!
i hope this helps and good luck, if you do have diabetes, i know how you feel, dont be scared there are loads of people to help you get on with diabetes.
i was diagnosed 2 days after my 15th birthday so pretty **** but i was a healthy weight and well i still am now.
if you are loosing weight you will regain it really quickly after the diagnosis because you get REALLY REALLY hungry i couldnt stop eating after i was diagnosed.
I really hope you do go the doctors because if you leave it too long your blood sugar levels will get too high and you have potentially go into a coma.
again i really hope this helped and you go to the doctors and get it sorted :)

A blood sugar of 8-9 is the same as a US reading of 150-160. That would be a little high even after eating, but not terribly so. However, you cannot get an accurate representation of your blood sugar unless you take it fasting. That means you haven't eaten in 8 hours. Generally this is done first thing in the morning. If you have a fasting blood sugar over 100, it means you could be pre-diabetic. Then you need to get a test called an hba1c. That is the test that will really determine if your blood sugar has been running high or not. People put way too much emphasis on the symptom of thirst. Being thirsty and the resulting need to use the bathroom frequently is only significant in a small amount of cases. If you are losing weight quickly without trying that would be a more common telltale sign of diabetes. Anyway, you need a fasting glucose check, or just go to the Dr. and ask for an hba1c.

It's Unlikely that a 15 year old with a Healthy Weight would be diabetic.

My guess is that there is something SIGNIFICANT in your life... that you should be worrying about... so you're looking for a distraction.

If you have any HEATH concern... see a doctor.

Certainly a "diagnosis" from a "stranger" on Y!A who's never met you... is as meaningful as getting your answers from: "the Magic Eight Ball".

if you become fatigued easily, experience excessive thirst (polydipsia), urinate often (polyuria), and have an increased appetite, then you should tell your parents or doctor. those are all symptoms of diabetes.
blood sugar levels change throughout the day as you eat different things and use sugar with physical activity. it's normal for it to change suddenly.

Only a doctor can give you the right answer.
If you have those symtoms then I suggest you make an appointment to see what's wrong.
