What do I do about a sore/dry throat?!

Question: What do I do about a sore/dry throat?
Last night I noticed my throat was dry/sore, not long before going to be actually, maybe 6 hours before. Now that I think about it, it felt slightly more sore/dry near where I was getting ready for be. I knew I'd get a sore/dry throat, I was planning on getting my mother to buy lemons for me the next day(not right away, she has work, nearest store is 40km away).
Today, well now, after 3-4 hours of sleep I wake up because my throat is so dry, it hurts to 'swallow'(i've got nothing to swallow) and it actually hurt slightly when I toke the first gulp. I wasn't imagining it would get this bad this quickly last night, I thought I could hold out until tomorrow evening.

Is there anything I can do immediately to sooth it? What should I do tomorrow? Still go to school(I'm 16), or stay home?

Also, I've never really had a sore throat, none in the past few years anyways. I don't remember what my grandmother and father used to do.

Okay, something that works for me all of the time is Honey. Another thing that will provide a very temporary solution (if you cannot get your hands on honey, syrup also works, if you have neither, wait until you can get some), is just to drink water. This will give a temporary soothing and allow some water to get around in your throat and all. As for school, take a pad and paper, and write down that your throat is sore and you do not want to lose your voice (because strain will cause that), be extremely careful, do not whisper or shout, and if you can do with without sounding nerdy, put your voice on the top of your breath, if you know how to, it'll lighten the effect on your voice. Another thing is if you can prevent it at all, try not to cough or sneeze. There are a lot of ways to help a sore throat, but each and every one of them take time.
