what happens when you only take half of the perscription for an ear infection?!

Question: What happens when you only take half of the perscription for an ear infection?
okay, i kinda have a little bit of a sticky situation here. there was this virus that was going around my house, and my twin sister ended up with an ear infection so bad that her eardrum exploded. VIOLENTLY. and then me and my older sister got sick, and my mom told us that it was the same thing she had. before i got my antibiotic, amoxicillin, my ear hurt really bad and it sounded like it had it's own heartbeat. but then my mom gave me some, and my ear felt 10x better. it didn't even feel ike i was sick anymore, except for my runny nose. but after 5 days of taking this medicine, i left for my dads house and left my pills on the counter. i only didn't have them for 2 days, but my mom wont let me get back on track because of some sort of "super germs" and now my body is immune to that medicine. i honestly have no idea wat she is talking about, but since shes a nurse i think i should listen to her. the pills were for only prescribed for 10 days, and i took it for 5 days. i don't know if the fact that i took half of the pills wil change anything, but i was hoping that maybe somebody can tell me what is going to happen to my ear and what should i do to fix it before it returns to its original state and hurt like a ***** and pound like a drum in my head.

Answers:

Antibiotics do not work on viruses. So if what you had was viral then the antibiotics were doing nothing anyways. So now that you are well just forget about it. There is nothing to do.

Not taking your whole course of antibiotics can lead to the bacteria in your body getting used to the drug and becoming immune to it. Then the bacteria can change into the super-bug that your mom was referring to. But this only applies to bacterial infection and illness.

I was a microbiologist--lab researcher for years.

You really should finish the course of antibiotics that your doctor gave you. It would make sure to eradicate the germs that are causing your symptoms. It isn't the end of the world either that you can't get to your antibiotics for now. If the symptoms reappear, then go back to or call your doc. He can even call in another prescription for you.

One thing I can say is that you should be taking all the prescription because that is what the doctor ordered and if your not the doctor than you shouldn't be doing that for your on health good luck. \(^.^)/
