ALS- ANYTHING you know which can help?!

Question: ALS- ANYTHING you know which can help?
My father has a friend, a bestfriend, which he has know ever since he was in middle school. He was diognosed with ALS one year ago, but had symptoms 3 years back. This man now has a wife, three kids (16,12,5). He is an amazing man, and means so much to everyone who knows him. We all need him- his wife, his kids, my dad, me, and everyone who knows him needs this amazing man in their lives.
I am the same age as their oldest son (16), and I can understand what he might be going throug- and it seems terrible. I can imagine what his wife, or my father would feel.

The thing is his situation is getting worse, day by day. It first started off with his right arm becoming paralysed, then his left leg weakened, now is paralysed. Most of his right side was slowely weakening, and now it has affected his left side too (numbness, loss of sensation etc). It seems like its taking over fast. At night he needs to use support to breathe. And it seems like by summer he would be in a wheelchair.
Meanwhile, my grandfather was diaognosed with cancer last summer, and my dads in such a hard situation. The two people, which he loves greatly are in terrible state right now. We also live in another country, so the distance makes things worse. My dad is constantly looking for treatments regarding ALS, cancer etc. Its terrible.

So my big question here is- do you know anything, ANYTHING, which can help with the ALS? He is 38 years old.. Anything to slow it down, make it stop?? Please just tell me anything you know which might help.

Also- every summer dad works to get us (his family) happy, this summer I want him to spend time with his friend and dad. So, I was thinking a trip together with our family and his friends family? But obviously if he ends up in a wheelchair he wont want to be out much in public.. so any ideas as to what we could do?

Thanks, please pray and give any help you can!! :(

Answers:

Contact kaiser Los Angeles hospital and ask if anyone there is doing research in ALS. Maybe he could get in on a clinical trial. A doctor at that hospital diagnosed my rare heart condition that less than 1% of the population has AND had done the clinical trial on it. I went to 14 other doctors prior to that in more than one state who were unable to even diagnose me and several told me I was just nuts. I was only diagnosed a few days ago but I have a lot of faith in the doctors there..he gave me the diagnosis no one else came up with. You might also try talking to UCLA hospital and see what studies are being done there.

Best wishes, I will pray for your dad, grandpa, and your dads friend. <3

It is a fatal disease. There are experimental lipid studies but they are rare.

I'm very sorry.
