My brother vomited up blood, does that mean cancer?!

Question: My brother vomited up blood, does that mean cancer?
he was at football training and he vomited up blood. he hasn't had is tonsils out or any surgeries so I'm thinking it's cancer. if it is what type? and if it isn't than what might it be? please help I'm so scared!

Answers:

Cancer should be the last thing you think of.
If this blood is from stomach then any inflammation, or ulcer there could cause it. Stress can cause acute stomach ulcer.
It can also be from nose or throat. If bleeding occurs from the nose one may swallow this blood (depending on body position at the time). Later it may be vomited. In this case blood color will change to brown if it had stayed in the stomach for long.
However, if the blood vomited was large your brother should see a doctor.

Don't worry. It's highly unlikely that it's cancer. However, vomiting up blood is not a good sign, so he should see a doctor asap. Yahoo! Answers are no replacement for a real physician.

I don't know why you think it's cancer cos more than likely it's not, but whatever the cause he needs to see his doctor & find out for sure exactly what the problem is.
Good luck:)

Something could have just bled out inside him. Don't sit there and think it's cancer.

It doesn't have to be cancer, but it could be very serious. Just tell him to go to a doctor. The sooner the better.

No. It's probably just an ulcer inside his body.

It could be but it might be a stomach ulcer..

He could have an ulcer. Think positive and pray he is alright. Did he go to the doctor?

nope - not the big C

more like an ulcer - from great fast food

i.e. STRESS from football

all the best (relax)
