Question: Why are people of Aboriginal, Hispanic, Asian, South Asian, or African descent at higher risk of diabetes?
According to the Canadian Diabetes Association site this is true. Why?

Answers:

Genetics, my friend. All of the different peoples that you mention are at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus. People of Northern European descent MAY be at increased risk of developing type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about the genes, though there are things that you can do in an attempt to defer the onset of type 2 diabetes. These would include such things as maintaining an optimum weight, i.e. not becoming overweight, eating a low carbohydrate diet, taking more exercise.

That is not factual. I think the most developed countries are at the highest risk of diabetes, though the suffering may not be visible due to management techniques..
