Pus or fungal infection?!

Question: Pus or fungal infection?
The "pinky" finger on my left hand has been hurting for two days now. It's swollen in one area and is red..I tried squeezing and some white fluid came out. Is this simple and I need to just warm up water with some salt or is it an underlying fungus infection? I have a nervous tick where I bit my nails a lot, so I'm sure that probably caused it. I'm going to the doctor because I don't want it to get worse to the point where they have to amputate it. I'm no stranger to this type of problem. I had something similar on my foot for years and I finally decided to go to the doctor and they told me to get surgery and remove the nail..it grew back and have not had problems since..

Answers:

I think that is a pus. Bitting nails can cause infection because the mouth have many bacteria, and so under the nails. I had similar problem with my big toe many years ago, and like you I had it removed in the hospital. I have seen many with big toes infection. Often I sugest them to soak it in hot water mixed with vinegar and epsom salt, (1 - 1- 1 mixture) for 30 minute then use antibiotic cream and bandage, 3 times a day. Cut a rubber glove or use finger cot when soaking. It takes about four month to grow a finger nails, should the doctor decide to remove it.

you don't have a fungus. if anything it is a bacterial infection. you really need to stop biting your nails but if you can't do that... go to the grocery/pharmacy & buy bacitracin & apply several times a day. don't mess with it anymore!! you might soak it in hot water a few times a day before applying the ointment. it will keep happening if you keep biting. sorry.
