Question about treating athletes foot, how long can you use over the counter cre!

Question: Question about treating athletes foot, how long can you use over the counter cream?
I have had athletes foot for over a decade now. I have treated it a couple of times but honestly stopped too soon and it just got worse. The last resort med my doctor tried would have been $200 so my dad stopped taking me. I am now much older (21) and am sticking to Lamisil over the counter cream. It said it should clear up in 1 week. If it is not cleared in 1 week, would it be okay to continue using it for another week? Or should I stop? i just dont want to get most of it cleared and then have it return.

Answers:

In Canada Mario when your placed on disability as you posted in your other question. Do you not receive prescription coverage for prescriptions. Use the Lamisil for now until disability cheques start coming in or if have already qualified for disability cheques, phone the disability office and ask if you have prescription coverage.
Go back to the doctors if you do and ask him for a prescription, not over the counter cream.
If thats the case Mario wait for disability or approval for disability claim and continue using Lamisil until you have the coverage.
Its too bad you do not live in Canada...... We have what you call ohip. All hospital & doctors are free of charge in Canada. Also govt will help those who need prescriptions through what we call Service Ontario.

Seriously urinate on your feet daily in the shower, it works! Been doing it for years and have never gotten athletes foot.

Yes, I too have had athlete's foot and I too have used Lamisil. You can use it for severalmonths with no problems. Here is what one person wrote for a remedy:

"Try it. I've had athletes foot for over 25 years, tried a LOT of things T tree oil( gave bad reaction, blisters etc etc etc) Garlic, silver solutions sprayed on feet, a silver rod in my shoes, other things i can't remember, and of course the countless (harmfull) creams and talcs. OOOOHH HONEY! - Didn't work.

So any way came across this site advising apple cider. I tried it undiluted( you might want to be carefull with the white vinegar, i found it to be very agressive) and needles to say it worked, i found a direct imrovement the next day with excess skin caused by the fungus, peeling off. THIS WAS THE first day. Acually the first day i tried it i knew something was changing i knew it. I tried it again last night and i will keep on doing it for the next comming weeks. I am hundred percent clear this will solve my athletes foot and i urge ANYONE to try it,please . .

I never felt so clean, and i tell you: it really ups your chance of getting a nice girlfriend.

Peace. . . "

Here is another home remedy a mother wrote about "My 3 year old has Athele's Foot from wanting to walk around barefoot everywhere. I hated the idea of using those strong harsh OTC creams on her, so I looked around for home remedies. She was crying because it hurt so bad, so I combined a few of the home remedies and this is what is working for her:

-foot soak with 8 cups warm water and 1 cup Epsom salt
-rinse
-foot soak with 8 cups lukewarm water and 2 cups vinegar for 10 minutes
-rinse
-a quarter-sized amount of Cortisone 10, rubbed in well
-light dusting of baking soda

I sprayed her sneakers with Lysol and set them up to dry. In the morning, I plan on rinsing her feet with vinegar and water, rubbing more Cortisone cream on her toes and applying more backing soda before putting her socks and shoes on."

and here is a third remedy someone wrote about "It will drive you crazy.... the insane burning, itching and peeling. I tried a number of things this last time (i've had it before but this last time was the WORST).... and the best three things that helped me clear it up (and stop it from driving me crazy)...

1. Soaked my foot in hot water, apple cider vinegar and epsom salt. It will sting a little... but the longer you last the better the relief

2. Friar's Balsam (the brand i used is herb farm), applied undiluted morning and evening after spraying the affected area w/peroxide and drying.

3. Vicks VapoRub applied before bed (very soothing).

I'm practically clear in two days... and I've already suffered for more than a week w/it.

Hope this helps. "

I personally use Vicks Vapo Rub which has phenol and camphor and relieves itch and kills fungus.

Hope this helps!
