Is this normal or should I be concerned?!

Question: Is this normal or should I be concerned?
I am 5'3 and I weigh about 145. I'm on birth control and prozac which supposedly make you gain weight and/or lower your metabolism for my hormones, but the doctor said I've gained 2 pounds in like the past 6 months. And I don't watch what I eat I eat a lot, and I have hypothyroidism so my metabolism is really low in the first place. I don't drink very much but I do get thirsty a lot and I am very tired, but I am not sure if this has to do with the hormone medications I am taking as a side effect or if it is turning into Type 1 Diabetes. My dad has Type 1 so the doctor told me to be really careful. I urinate about 6-7 times a day, but like I said, I really don't drink that much at all. I feel horrible all the time and the slightest thing can irritate me so do you think it is side effects of the hormone medications or possibly Type 1?

Answers:

Most people who have a thyoid problem also develop diabetes, but not type 1!!! Type 1 is caused by damage to the pancreas and is not that inheritable if at all.

tiredness and general feeling of blah can both be explained by thyroid not being in control.

Prozac and the other mood altering drugs along with Chantix all made me as mean as a Mojave Rattlesnake! It almost cost me a divorce! Those drugs also left me sitting in the chair with no motivation to do anything at all and feeling totally blah. I was indeed depressed while taking that junk.

I absolutely hated Prozac. I was put on it by my doctor for panic attacks related to my type 1 diabetes. I think we tried everything until finding that Pristiq works very well (at least for me).

As for your diabetic concerns, there are a few easy answers that you can try. Easiest one is to go to your doctor and voice your concerns. Seeing your father is a type one, I'm surprised your even asking here first. Failing that, if you want to try something at home, go get a glucose test kit from the store and do a finger stick test (they don't hurt) but I would only use that if you somehow can't make it to the doctor.
