Motor neurone disease (MND), please help !!!?!

Question: Motor neurone disease (MND), please help !!!?
Motor neurone disease
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_neurone_disease

My brother is almost 29yr old now,

He got muscle loss in the right hand in the age of 21, and now he is 29 and its slightly and almost affected the other hand too.. but he still take care of himself and do everything. only his hands are affected and its not much noticable when he wears the shirt.

and then we've met lot of doctors and they finally figured out(hopefully) its MND (Motor neurone disease)

But after reading this page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_neurone_disease

I'm bit confused, it states its a fatal condition and the patients will die soon, is that correct ??
What should we do in order to avoid/treat this ? Is there no medicine available for this ??
Will it spread to all over the body ? how long it will take ?

please help, i love him.. he have a kid and a wife too...

Answers:

Wikipedia is seldom a reliable source of information for medical and scientific questions. Motor neuron disease is actually a category of different conditions that share some common features. Some types of this disease are not fatal and progress slowly; some types remain more or less stable, and only a few types (like Lou Gehrig's disease) are fatal.

It looks like your brother has had only minor progression in 8 years. Its safe to assume that it will continue to progress at a similar rate in the future, and its possible the symptoms might stabilize. This pattern is not fatal and it may never cause more than minor problems.

The fact sheet at the link provides reliable information.

this looks to be an autoimmune disease. He would need stem cells so that his neurons can regenerate but other than that just physiotherapy and medication to slow it's progression.
