Fasting for a blood glucose test?!

Question: Fasting for a blood glucose test?
I need to take a blood glucose test at the clinic today. I need to fast for it. Can I drink some water?

Answers:

No...The whole purpose of the fasting blood glucose test is to see what your levels are without any intervention.

Water will actually lower the glucose concentration in your blood.

If your mouth is dry..take a sip of water , swirl it around your mouth and spit it out.

Best wishes!

You should have gotten an instruction sheet from the doctor's office telling you how long for the fasting and that you can have water.

The labs have different timings but more than 8 hours is unnecessary. And they always allow water.

OGTT, Oral Glucose Tolerance Test, is the only glucose testing that requires fassting, but we are always allowed to have some water.

Finish Ur normal dinner by 8.00 p.m., and stop taking anything until next day morning. Collect Ur first urine in a bottle and go to the lab., to give blood for testing. U must give a time gap of 12 hours, even without water. lest the results may vary, to defeat the very purpose.

Yes, you can, so long as it's plain water. i.e. not flavoured [flavored, if you're one of my American cousins]

Most of the other respondents are 100% wrong. (Thumbs up to Miz Lamb.)

If you are having a fasting glucose blood test, you should NOT eat or drink for 8 hours before the test.
