When I was a child I always used to get flushed and hot to the touch when warm, !

Question: When I was a child I always used to get flushed and hot to the touch when warm, what was this?
I'm 16 years old and live in Wisconsin. In every picture of me as a child my face is flushed. My mom said that I've been sensitive to heat my whole life, the school used to call my mom at work because I was so red and warm to touch, and a year or so ago I developed Cholinergic Urticaria (heat hives). So now I get warm and my skin looks and to the touch it feels the same, it's just that now I itch, get prickly pain everywhere, and feel like I'm burning.

Is there some connection between whatever was happening to me as a child and the Cholinergic Urticaria?

Answers:

What you exhibited as a child was a lesser unticarial reaction. It is common for urticarial reactions to increase over time, especially among children.

If it is a particular problem, it can be treated with an antihistamine or with Cimetidine (normally used for acid reflux), both of which are available over the counter.

There are prescription steroids that will control it, but they are problematic for longer term chronic use, especially among younger patients.

The primary treatment is to be aware of your triggers and manage them.
