Herpes in the first trimester? help please!?!

Question: Herpes in the first trimester? help please!?
Hi I just found out im pregnant and i am very early in the first trimester and just found out that the guy who got me pregnant also has genital herpes. I have never had it before, so I most likely have it too . we have had sex several times and did not use condoms(stupid!!!) and I noticed some tiny bumps down there that may or not be from that, im not sure!!

I read on the Baby Center website and it says this about herpes and pregnancy :

"In rare cases, a pregnant woman may transmit the infection to her baby through the placenta if she gets herpes for the first time in her first trimester."

I am so worried because it is saying that it can cause serious birth defects to the fetus if you get it in the first trimester!! and It can cross the placenta to hurt the baby! What should I do? What can the doctors do, or is it too late? Do they even test for herpes ? I heard it is not part of the standard STD testing, so please help if you know anything about herpes and pregnancy!!

Answers:

You should know you can escape getting herpes from your partner, he isn't going to pass it onto every one he had sex with.
Like the site says, "in rare cases" herpes is very rarely passed from parent to child while it's in the womb. If the baby does contract herpes it cause things like blindness, brain damage, deafness and eve death. There is more risk when it comes to delivering the child then carrying it. The risk to the baby occurs when the mother has a genital break out at the time she delivers but usually doctors prescribe an antiviral medication or suppressant to help prevent break outs so you can deliver naturally with out having any risks of passing herpes onto the baby.
There is nothing major to worry about while your pregnant, but do notify your doctor and they should monitor your pregnancy if you do have a break out.
If you contract herpes long before you were pregnant then you shouldn't have any complications the baby shouldn't have much risk of getting herpes.
As for the bumps they could be any thing, a lot of things can cause bumps down stairs with out it being herpes. But you should be tested for herpes, that is the best way to tell if it's herpes or not.
