I am 12 years old, do I have breast cancer?!

Question: I am 12 years old, do I have breast cancer?
My aunt died from breast cancer a year ago. Today I was watching Embarrassing Bodies and they were speaking about breast cancer, so I checked my boob and from the bottom I pushed and I felt a lump, is this normal? I also have this little brown lump underneath my nipple, it's smooth not rough. I am going to get a check-up but first I need to know to take precautions or not. By the way, I will be started my 4th-5th period soon. Also, I spoke about it with my older sister (I don't live with my mum) and she has it to (not the little brown lump) and she told me not to be worried, but I'm still very scared. They also said on Embarrassing Bodies it could just be a fat tissue or something, please help I'm really worried!

Answers:

Not even close. At 12 years old, this is simply your growing breasts. Forget about TV..this is the problem...You saw it, so you believe you have it. At 12 years old, you are not even encouraged to check for lumps. Not until you reach the age of 20! You do not have to take precautions and have nothing to worry about. Your best bet is to stop watching medical shows. Your sister is correct.

Most likely you have a cyst. A cyst is a clump of cells or fat. It is important to note that this is NOT a tumor, therefore not cancer. They feel like you described and move around a little when pushed. Sometimes they are tender feeling. They go away on their own over time and are harmless. If it doesnt go away after a few weeks 3-4, see a doctor.

I've had multiple cysts.

It is not cancer.
These lumps are due to hormonal changes in your body at this age.
They will resolve.
