why do i keep getting kidney infections?!

Question: Why do i keep getting kidney infections?
i keep getting recurring kidney pains and infections, i had one the other month and took antibiotics to get rid of it, but now its come back, i dont know why i keep getting them, i haven't had sex since i last had the infection so it cant be that, and ive been drinking plenty. i used to only get pain in my right kidney, but today its my left one that is killing me. when i press my right side it hurts, whereas the left side is hurting on its own. im in agony at the moment, but cant go to my docs until monday as they're shut weekends, i dont know if this pain is serious enough to go to hospital or whether i should just wait till monday. i know its an infection as ive had so many in the past, i know what the symptoms are. but i just want to know what it is that keeps causing me to have them, i used to take sleeping pills in the past, and sometimes more than i should just so i could sleep, but i didnt think they would effect kidneys, i thought that was the liver.
does anyone know what would keep a girl of 27 to keep having kidney pains and infections

Answers:

Starting with your current infection, you really cannot risk leaving this over the weekend. Untreated UTIs can progress from the nuisance of cystitis, up from the bladder via the ureters to the kidneys. This produces pyelo-nephritis. This can permanently scar the kidneys and cumulatively can lead to renal failure. On rare occasions it can also lead to fatal septicaemia, thus making it one of the few occasions where antibiotics are routinely justified. Most GPs will prescribe for this without seeing the patient or requiring a test, and it is also just about the only situation where to do so is considered reasonable. So contact NHS24/Direct today.

Your chronic infections should have prompted your GP to arrange scanning and urodynamic studies. I suspect that you normally phone in and get a prescription, this is fine for the occasional infection, but he should have picked up that your problem had gone beyond this and required a referral to a urologist. Make an appointment to discuss this.

GP for more years than I care to remember

I have one kidney smaller than the other, so trust me, its no big, just go to your GP he/she will take another water sample if reoccurring, then he/she will take some minor blood test. Not much else left, don't worry, I'm sure nothing to worry about :D x.
drink plent of water, a hot water bottle also comforts ;)

Few of the preventive measures are
1-Empty the bladder after sexual intercourse
2 Wiping from front to back after going to the bathroom and not from back to front
3- Cranberries and cranberry juice are the proven home remedies beneficial in preventing kidney infections

dont hold back if u wanna pee.
