I had unprotected sex last night?!

Question: I had unprotected sex last night?
It was my first time, and lets just say this guy was a "chav" :/ :/ now I'm shitting myself if I have an sti or something :/ I know I was stupid! it was just spur of the moment kind of thing. He didn't *** inside me either, cause yeah he asked me if I was on the pill, and I was like no. Anyway, I'm 16 so I'm legal, he was 17.

Well, it's good that you're getting the morning after pill. Even though he tried to reduce the odds of getting you pregnant, pulling out is an extremely ineffective way of doing this!

Next, yes, you could have an STI. Common STIs include chlamydia, gonorrhea, trich (trichomoniasis), HSV (herpes), and HPV. Some less common but more serious STIs include HIV and syphilis.

Chlamydia/gonorrhea/trich: These are common and curable. If untreated they can cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in women, which can result in sterility. Women don't always have symptoms of these STIs, so it's important to get tested and treated if you have it.

HSV: Herpes causes lifelong infection, but usually results in a few outbreaks of painful blisters over several years before going dormant. There is no cure but your doctor can prescribe medication to shorten outbreaks.

HPV: This large group of viruses is as common as crabgrass. Most cause warts, but a few HPV strains don't cause visible warts and can infect the cells of the cervix inside your body and lead over years to cervical cancer. HPV is treatable by removing growths. Many times your body will fight off HPV infections on its own. Because HPV can cause cervical cancer, sexually active women should get regular Pap smears so the cancer can be detected and treated early.

HIV: HIV is the big one, it causes AIDS. HIV is rare but it is a concern since it is incurable, and modern drugs can slow progression of AIDS but can't always prevent it.

Syphilis: Also rare, but easily curable!

What you should do now: Go for an STD test this coming week. This will help find and treat chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trich. If you want to test for HIV you'll have to go back for a followup test in at least 3 weeks, but usually 3 months is recommended, because it can take time for the HIV test to show up positive after infection. If you develop any symptoms of genital pain or discharge over the next few weeks, go back for a followup visit.

You might think about getting the HPV vaccine, Gardasil. This vaccine prevents some of the most common HPV strains causing genital warts, and prevents some of the strains responsible for most cases of cervical cancer. You should also be going to get Pap smears on a schedule that your doctor will recommend, probably yearly.

While you're at the doctor, talk to them about an appropriate birth control method. The pill is extremely effective as long as you take it every day. You also need to use condoms in future to reduce your risk of catching an STI. Condoms reduce your risk of catching STIs and getting pregnant, but are not 100% effective, so remember the risks.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE girl protect yourself next time! Besides getting pregnant there are a number of std's out there. According to STD statistics, teens are more likely to be affected by sexually transmitted diseases. The Guttmacher Institute reports that 48 percent of new cases of STDs each year occur in those aged 15-24, and trust me you can't tell by just looking at someone. Go get a check up because there are certian std's such as Chlamydia (very dangerous) where symptoms are often unnoticeable. 75% of infected women and 50% of men have no symptoms at all, there are also std's you can't get rid of such as HIV/AIDS, Herpes, or Genital Warts. check out this link and I bet you'll wrap it up next time!

Wow, what a way to go! The memory of your 'first time' will be indelibly burned into your cranium.

If he didn't *** then you will not get pregnant and not get an STD.
