My son has a whopper of an earache! What do I do?!

Question: My son has a whopper of an earache! What do I do?
He tugged on his ear and started putting his finger in it, but never cried or even let me know he was in pain (hes 15 months) so I had no idea. Yesterday he vomitted all over his crib, and has had the runs so bad. I gave him nothing but pedialite and if he was hungry I followed the BRAT diet, but late afternoon his butt was bleeding and he was crying so hysterical that I took him to urgent care because I knew I no longer had the situation under control. They gave him an antibiotic and nystacin ointment for his butt and told me only to rinse him in the bathtub no wiping at all.
My question is this, now what! Its a beautiful day, all the little tots are outside, he is waving and whining by the window, can I take him outside? Can he get dirty, the risk of taking a bath God can he ever get water in his ear? The diarreha has stopped and he is in otherwise good spirits? Any suggestions for I no longer trust my gut instincts :(

Answers:

I would go outside if he wants to (but not let him play with other children if he's still contagious), little children usually know when their body tells them to take a rest. Even if you can't get him 100% clean afterwards I don't think that matters, but it sounds like you can give him a bath, just don't wipe his bottom. Alternatively you can sponge-bath him, I'm sure it won't harm him if he doesn't have a proper bath for a couple of days. Or take him for a walk in the pram if you're really worried. :)

No.he better stay inside...isn't that what ur instincts.let him play inside, its just for a few days.he s only 15months.if its any ear infection, poor baby doesn't know how to say that too.let him take a lit rest inside,u r doing for his good

Trust your gut & put cotton in his ear 2 keep wind & water out while ear is infected

Hearing impaired & suffered more earaches than I can remember & went 2 E.R 4 all of them

amputation
