will there be a cure for advanced diseases such as cancer and cirrhosis of the l!

Question: Will there be a cure for advanced diseases such as cancer and cirrhosis of the liver in a decade?
I heard medicine is getting better so are we going to have new cures for currently uncurable diseases such as cancer, cirrhosis of the liver soon like in a decade or two??

Answers:

In a decade? probably not. But, for cirrhosis of the liver, there's a near 100% sure preventative. See the bottle of booze on the shelf? Leave it there!

Afraid you cannot cure cirrhosis - at this stage one's liver has no more viable tissue. The only 'cure' for this is a transplant.
As for cancer, we are doing pretty good in some domains such as prostate and breast cancer and certain other ones where a specific genetic mutation is found and for which we can use a specific agent that targets that very mutation (eg gleevec for GIST or CML with philadelphia chromosome). Unfortunately, certain malignancies like lung, pancreas, stomach and some kidney cancers still have a very poor prognosis.

Hi Sarah, Cirrhosis of the liver is not a disease, it's the formation of ever increasing amounts of scar tissue until it stops functioning and then you will die. The only thing modern medicine will ever be able to do is to provide a transplant, but as you know, alcoholics are bottom of the list.

It's possbile- but only time will tell. A decade or so ago, we had no clue what medical advancements we were going to make. And my crystal ball is a bit fuzzy.

Research is going in right direction and scientists are really working hard.
With wishful thinking It can happen.

They are really working on that it just might happen !
