Is this sleep paralysis?!

Question: Is this sleep paralysis?
Okay, I've never been to a doctor and asked if I had sleep paralysis, so I've never been properly diagnosed with it. Although I do think I have it.

It started a couple years ago, where I would wake up and wouln't be able to move. I would try doing things like moving my fingers to get myself to wake up. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't, the matter was that I had to keep trying (and it would take up quite a bit of energy) or I would fall back asleep and risk it happening again. I've had it numerous times since, about once or twice a month. But today was by far the scariest and I'm tired, but scared to go back to sleep.

It started right when I get home from church. I went upstairs and turned the TV on, until I eventually fell asleep. I remember because it was 12:55 and I wanted to finish the end of this show, but I was just so tired that I finally gave into sleep. I had a weird dream, somebody was saying something to me, but it was cut off immediately and it felt like my whole body was shaking. My eyes snapped open and everything was shaking, it's that or my head was moving around wildly (haha). But I knew I was awake. It was like a loud buzzing (i wish I could describe it better) in my ear. But that wasn't the end of it, I was also paralyzed and I tried speaking, but all that came out were incoherant whispers because I wasn't able to use my vocal chords. I remember looking outside of my room and seeing the cupboard open. I knew I was awake because that's where we keep all the towels and I could see them as my brain or whatever it was was shaking. I also remember that I heard a demonic voice, it said something to me, but I don't remember now; I may have blocked that out of my memory since the experience was so terrifying. When it was over, I was so scared that I was fighting sleep, I was tired and was paralylized by now. As I tried to snap out of it, the shaking happened again, this time shorter. After I was done shaking, I realized I could move.

Could this have been some sort of seizure? I am, quite frankly, scared to go back to sleep.

What's weird about the whole thing, was that it lasted less than 5 minutes. I really wanted to watch the end of my show, the last 5 min. When it was all over I realized I just barely missed it. All I know, was that was the most terrifying experience by far.

Answers:

Nope, not a seizure. This is in fact Sleep Paralysis. The shaking you mentioned about your head is actually normal, its a phase in the sleep cycle that happens when your in REM sleep. Its the same with your ear ringing. Sleep Paralysis itself is when your brain awakes and your body is asleep so that your body doesn't act out your dreams. Its completely normal and doesn't harm you.

Everything you have in your description is normal and comes from Sleep Paralysis. Just dont get freaked out, it happens to everyone.

Experience.
