Question: Why do Liberals seem so into censorship? Does this not go against the idea of being a social liberal?
I don't agree with that pedophile book. But that guy was ARRESTED for writing it. They even did an "undercover" mission and bought a book and got him to sign it. Real risky stuff. But people CRY about Copernicus and Galileo being jailed for writing things at the time deemed illegal for whatever social convention. How is it that we are still doing the same thing we've been doing for hundreds of years and few people ever see the connection?

I am trying to answer this honestly and fairly, so don't think I'm trying to come off as combative. But why do you assume liberals are the ones responsible for the two examples you listed? What evidence do you have of that? The ACLU is routinely demonized by conservatives for fighting for the 1st amendment rights of groups that everyone finds despicable. The attack on violent video games and "offensive" music lyrics was a bipartisan effort. I don't really have a problem with a private business not wanting to make a personalized birthday cake for a kid named in honor of Hitler. I have no idea if the person responsible for that decision was conservative or liberal. But I do know that social conservatives are the ones behind the boycotts of businesses whose employees say "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas." It was outrage from conservatives regarding Bill Maher's and the Dixie Chick's anti-war comments that got him thrown off ABC and the Dixie Chicks banned from Clear Channel and other major radio stations.
My point is, I think it's myopic to always assign what you perceive as censorship to liberals.

Why don't you take a look at who banned "The Root of All Evil"
Look at who's trying to ban pornography, controversial books (involving atheism, sexual preference, adult themes, etc.), rewrite history, censor n*gger out of Huck Finn, started Parents Television Council, and cuss words for just a FEW examples.
Conservatives censor anything that goes against "traditional" values.
What's even scarier is the lack of a reaction they take to several other issues. They do NOTHING about the hate speech in regards to atheism, Islam, and homosexuality. They claim this extremism is mere "freedom of speech."
Ok, you've got two fairly extreme (and just) examples of when Liberals call for Censorship.
Now, consider all the butt-hurt Conservative fundies trying to get Harry Potter pulled from public libraries...
You'd think so, but in order to make their ideology pervasive, one thing they have to do is make it harder to gain access to an opposing viewpoint, and censorship is the surest way to do that.
