Working out, not losing weight?!

Question: I've been working out for about 2 months now, 40 minutes on the elliptical 4 times/week. I haven't lost a pound and my clothes aren't fitting any differently. I'm feeling so discouraged. I haven't made dramatic changes to my eating, but I've definitely been eating less. What gives?

One reason that could be is that you may not be raising your heart rate enough to burn fat. You should raise it at least 70% of max rate. One effective way to burn more fat is by going moderately fast for 10 minutes straight then slow down for 5 mintues. Do this through out your workout and it should help. Weight training or resistance training helps you burn more fat. The more musle mass you have the more fat you burn. Do at least 30 mintues every other day. Try to include more fiber in your diet. If you're not compatiable with fruits and vegetables then take fiber pills this will help clean out you digestive system gently. Drink plenty of water (this is very important). Drink at least one tall glass of water with every meal. Do NOT skip breakfast EVER!!! Having a hearty breakfast stops you from over eating during the day. If you don't have a healthy diet that needs to change for sure(that is if you're looking for long term results). If you drink any kind of soda pop try drinking diet every time you have an urge to drink pop. It will cut out at least 200 calories. I would need to know more to better advise you feel free to shoot me an email.

Maybe you are big boned

metabolism!

eating less doesn't necessarily mean good. Eating a constant 6 (yes, 6) meals a day is good, make sure there not high calorie foods. Completely stop drinking soft drink, do not eat anything with chocolate in it. Some foods are really high in calories like a small packet of noodles, spaghetti etc. So be sure to check. Cardio exercise is good, a run or ride before school/work is a good jump start to the day. Hope this helps and i wish you all the best.

muscle weighs more than fat so loosing weight is kinda of a lie, don't worry bout the other, keep on working out, ur body is thanking u

Hi,
you have a couple of good answers already, I would say it takes time for the results to show, the first thing you can do for yourself is have a positive attitude to the overall benefits of your exercising. You do need to have a balance of intake of calories and burn off of calories, to state the obvious you need to burn up mere calories that you take in. If you start to change your diet to include more healthy foods and lots of water try to do this gradually and in a way you can still enjoy your food, and plan on maintaining a healthy diet.
I have a bad back and pain in all my joints so I find it really hard to exercise, I did not want to make thing worse by gaining too much weigh, so I bought a Reviber machine you just stand on the platform and it vibrates up through your body like massage and this keeps the extra weight off me. You can have a look for yourself at http://www.massagevibe.com

You have to eat about 1200 to 1600 calories a day. If you eat too little amount of calories then your body metabolism will shut down and you will go into what is known as starvation mode and your body will not burn any excess fat.

1- first you mmust drink a lot of water. Drink about 100 ounces of water a day. This will get your kidneys working properly and your other organs will start to work properly and your body can metabolize in a better manner.

2- You will have to give up all sodas (diet and regular). Only very sparingly in the beginning if you get an uncontrollable urge just have a little bit of soda. Drink mostly water and you can squeeze fresh lemon into the water for a refreshing treat. Drink one or two cups of green tea a day.

3- Remember artifical sweetners act the same way as sugar and prevent you form losing weight.

4- Eat small meals during the day about 4 or 5.

5- A typical good breakfast would be two eggs any style ( I preferred omelette) along with chopped onion and diced tomato. Also with a cup of plain (unflavored oatmeal) or instead of oatmmeal a cereal like shredded wheat or corn flakes along with 4- ounces to 8 ounces of milk in the bowl. You can alternate the amount of milk every day or everyother day. also have half a grapefruit at breakfast and lunch along with a glass of water and fresh squeezed (one lemon into a glass of water)

For lunch and dinner have about three ounces of a lean meat such as real turkey or grilled chicken with no skin. Along with a serving of two vegetables such as maybe broccoli and string beans. Perhaps spinach and broccoli. Also have a cup (one cup of measured cooked rice with each meal or one potaote small This will give you enough balance between protein and carbohydrates.

About once every two weeks you can treat yourself to a dessert.

Also go heavier on the vegetables and lighter on the fruits as fruits turn to sugar in the body quicker than the vegetables and it will slow your metabolism down.

6- You must break your exercise down into smaller periods th start out 20 minutes of the eliptical three times a day one day and three twenty minute periods of fast walking outdoors. Another day ride an exercise bicycle for three twenty minute periods. slowly build that up to about 35 minutes if possible. Every 5th day take a day off from exercise and give your body a days rest. This will help you keep your metabolism burning in spurts during the day.

7- Very important is to exercise before you eat and not after. Exercising beofre you eat puts your body inot fat-calorie burning mode and the metabolism will keep on going long after you have eaten.

8- Above all remember to have as much water as possible at leat 80 to 100 ounces a day.

I hope this information will help you.
I am sure if you follow closely the above mentioned steps you should start to lose very soon and you will become encouraged to keep trying.

Remember to eat smaller meals about 1200 to 1600 calories a day Stay away from a lot of unnecessary starches like white bread. Have whole grain whole wheat bread instead on those some days that you have some bread.
