Calorie intake, is it safe?!

Question: About 4 and a half months ago I cut my calorie intake drasticly, from not counting calories to only eating about 1200 a day. Since then I have lost over 2 stone which is great but I was feeling quite faint and unwell so increased the calories to 1400. I have seen the difference in my shape and am now finding it hard to eat anymore without feeling terribly guilty that I shall put all my weight back on again. I am 5ft 10 tall and now weigh about 154 pounds. Is it silly to be eating only 1400 calories, am I being too harsh with this do you think?

you are within a normal weight range for your height.
What you have to do is increase you calorie intake slowly by about 100 calories a week so that your body gets used to functioning on a higher calorie allowance. If you do this then you will not re-gain the weight you have lost and be able to maintain your new weight.
Well done for losing the weight and might i say that I believe that this is the first sensible diet related question I have ever seen on answers.

I count my calories too and i have 1250 a day and i never feel weak or faint.
Maybe you are eating the wrong things.
Make sure you eat a bit of every food source ( protein, carbs etc).
You shouldn't feel that bad if you eat the right foods.

At your height I would think that 1400 calories a day is too little. Increase gradually to a point where you maintain your current weight - you will only put the weight back on if you overeat over a period of time. Eat healthily and exercise sensibly and you'll be okay.

1400 calories is only 600 less than what you should be eating it's only a sandwich less. give it a rest over christmas though.it's a time for eating!

Calorie intake is different for each individual. Try changing the foods your eating, maybe add some energy foods.
if you eat 3 meals a day you could try smaller meals throughout the day, it may keep your energy up & therefor might stop the faint feeling. x

Great post! I totally understand how you feel. I'm also trying to lose weight and I found this great product which is working for me (it's all 100% natural). You can check the website at
