Is there any genetic advantage to being overweight?!

Question: In a way, most certainly. Being overweight - in the portion that's genetic (since part of being overweight is habit and culture) - means you are storing the energy. So come hungry times, you'd live through them. Also, your organs are protected from cold. A woman whose body can hold on to fat will ensure a safer womb for the unborn baby (if there is some ice age or starvation coming up).

Now, if you happen to live in an environment that's climate controlled and ensures steady nutrition, these advantages aren't particularly useful....

It seems that there is some mixed evidence on the impact of extra weight on the body. While majority of evidence points to extra weight as being detrimental to your health in one way or the other, there are some peculiar paradoxes - apparently, the relationship between weight and heart health is not necessarily all that straightforward (check out recent articles).

unless you live where it is really cold and you need the extra insulation, no.

unless that extra weight is muscle, then it would be good.

I don't know if there would be any advantages except maybe stay warmer in the winter.
