Do men get a strength boost around age 30?!

Question: For most of my adult life I have weighed between 160 and 175 lbs. I am 6'1". I weighed myself for the first time in a long time today and was at 194! I look thin (like a runner) and don't have much more than an inch of belly fat (definitely not 2 inches) and no fat can be noticed over the rest of my body. Did I get some kind of strength boost and increased muscle mass around age 30 or am I just getting fat? Intelligent answers are appreciated.

How long has it been since the time you were 160 to 175 and now?

Maybe your scale is off? Weigh yourself again, perhaps use a different scale just to be sure.

If you have in fact gained 20 to 35 lbs pounds, most of it will likely be body fat. If it doesn't show, it may be because you're tall and 'wear' it well.

I doubt there is a physiological 'strength boost' that occurs at age 30. Indeed, testosterone levels (one of the growth hormones that interact with muscle tissue) generally diminish as we age.

Training with weights (especially resistance training that uses large muscle groups of the lower body, such as squats for example) helps to increase serum testosterone concentration levels.

Weigh yourself again. It could have been an anomaly.

Fuel your body with nutritious foods and train regularly- and watch your weight.

All the best,

It sounds like additional muscle mass. I weighed 135 lbs (6'1) until about 25. I started exercising and put on 50 lbs of muscle. It's easier to gain muscle mass after your metabolism slows down.
