I feel you. First, you need to take the word "diet" out of your vocabulary. A diet usually translates into restriction, and no one can keep that up. You need to make healthier lifestyle choices. Incorporate healthy foods (fruits, veggies, lean protein, lo fat dairy, WHOLE grains) into your diet as much as possible. Cut down on white foods (bread, pasta), and junk and processed foods, sodas. If you eat an overall healthy diet, it won't kill you to indulge a treat here or there.

Also, since you really don't have that much to lose (compared to me, I've lost 30 lbs and have another 30 to go), exercising 3 days a week can make a big difference. Try walking briskly for 30 minutes, or doing some light resistance training. The key is to stick with it.

Since most people don't really know what they need to lose weight, you should try some books etc to guide you. Let me recommend Sparkpeople.com if you want recommendation on what to do. If you want to do it yourself, try thedailyplate.com to track your calories (I love this one). Both are free. A good book is You on a Diet by Dr. Oz. It is not really a diet but puts forth good guidelines for healthy living.

Don't despair, I tried everything and the only thing that is ever worked is diet and exercise (duh!). Try thedailyplate.com and add me as as friend (username: alanerie).

don't feel bad I'm trying to lose 20 pounds also but don't know where to start because I always want to eat the sweet stuff currently 154 pounds. 5'6

It's all up to you.But i would say yes.
I know that a lot of people do feel like that, the only word DIET puts pressure on you and we not even talking about dieting itself. But to make sure that you could be on the track is to make sure that you could eat food you like and that will your body wouldn't crave anything else or at least it would it easyer to tur your heat to different direction.
So....what you need is the right person who would work with you,who would help you out with the diet only for you not SOMEBODYS else diet.Which in most cases this is how it is.
And you will be on the way with a little bit cardio and training, that would speed it up the whole proces.

And trust me i know about it ;) been in this business way too long.
I hope i did help.
